Yes, but with precautions. Our frames are built to last, but like most picture frames, they’re best suited for dry, climate-controlled spaces. Excessive moisture and humidity — especially in places like bathrooms, kitchens, or coastal areas — can negatively affect both the frame and the artwork inside.
Here’s what you should know:
- Solid Wood Frames: Our frames are made from sealed, genuine hardwood—not MDF or plastic. While built to last, natural wood may still expand, contract, or warp slightly in consistently humid environments.
- Acrylic vs. Glass Fronts: Acrylic glazing is more resistant to moisture than glass, making it better for high-humidity spaces. It’s less prone to fogging, condensation, or cracking. For this reason, our larger frame sizes (typically over 41") come with lightweight, impact-resistant acrylic fronts.
- Acid-Free Matting & Backing: All of our mats and backing boards are acid-free and lignin-free to help resist deterioration. However, even archival materials can be vulnerable to mold, mildew, and warping if exposed to prolonged humidity or condensation.
Best Practices:
- Avoid hanging frames directly over steamy showers or stoves.
- Use a ventilated or dehumidified space when possible.
- If condensation appears inside the frame, remove the backing and let everything dry thoroughly before resealing.
For valuable or irreplaceable artwork, we recommend displaying it in a space with stable humidity and temperature — or consulting a professional framer for conservation-grade protection.
